FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Shoreland offer a busing program for its students?
A: If your student lives in the Racine or Kenosha areas, they can ride the Unified School System buses and get to Shoreland. If you live outside those districts, Shoreland has its own set of buses that run routes throughout our "federation."

Q: Why do I have to pay tuition to send my child to Shoreland?
A: It costs roughly $7000 to educate a child at Shoreland. Our tuition is a part of that cost. The rest of the cost for our school’s budget is covered by offerings from the 24 congregations that support us with their offerings and with private donations.

Q: What is included with tuition?
A: Tuition includes all book fees, lab fees, report cards, etc. There is a reasonable fee for athletic participation. For these fees, a family rate limit is in place. There is a fee for the registration process.

Q: How is tuition to be paid?
A: Tuition payments are made on an automatic withdrawal system (checking, savings) through the FACTS tuition management program. Payments can be adjusted to suit income and takes hardship into consideration.

Q: How can I get a break on tuition?
A: Financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. Shoreland gives out tens of thousands of dollars in financial aid each year. Also, you can receive credit for tuition through our SCRIP program. Any family member, neighbor, relative, or friend can participate and designate your student as the recipient of their "profit." Call the SCRIP office for more information (ext. 209).

Q: What are the spiritual and academic advantages of having my child attend and graduate from Shoreland Lutheran High?
A: On average, 75% of our graduates advance to a 4-year college. 20% go on to technical schools. The final 5% enter the military or go directly into the work force. No matter what their calling, our students have received a sound, Christian, highly-regarded education at Shoreland Lutheran High School. We have had National Merit Scholarship Award winners, as well as other scholarship winners both academic and athletic.

Q: How can my child and I find out more about life at Shoreland?
A: We invite 5th and 6th graders to be "Pacers for a Day" at a "mock" school day each year, and have 7th and 8th graders make "real" school day trips. You are cordially invited. Please talk to your school principal, your pastor, or the school office. We also invite the parents of these same 7th and 8th grade students to a brunch each January, which allows them to tour the school, meet teachers, and ask questions. Again, please accept our invitation and call the school office for more details. Finally, you are welcome to come at any time for a tour and visit of our facility.

Q: What are my means of finding out more information?
A: Our principal, Mr. Scriver, may be reached at ext. 207. For more information on tuition credit, contact the business office at ext. 212. Guidance (ext. 215), Activities (ext. 204), Main office (ext. 203) are all helpful ways to learn more about us. We’d love to chat with you! You may e-mail us at slhsinfo@slhs.us or at office@slhs.us.
