I started working at Shoreland as a tutor for three Chinese students in the fall of 2013. During the following school year, our international program expanded. I started teaching ESL US History and tutoring many more students. I was formally called for the 2015-2016 school year to teach ESL History (both US and World) and ESL English, and provide educational assistance for our international student population, which is expanding every year.
I was born in Menomonie, WI, to Pastor John and Karen Zickuhr. We lived there until I was three. For the rest of my childhood years, I lived in Grant Park, IL, where my dad served two churches and my mom
taught at Zion Lutheran in Crete, where I went to grade school. God prepared me for what I am doing now, by having me experience living with host families while I attended Michigan Lutheran High School.
From there I went to Dr. Martin Luther College and graduated in 1993. I received a call to teach third and fourth grade, coach, play organ, and direct junior choir at Trinity in Caledonia, WI. This has been my home congregation ever since. I taught for five years, married my loving husband of almost 20 years, and raised two children, Caleb and Carli, who both attend Shoreland.
For 14 years, I taught piano lessons so that I could stay home with my kids. When my daughter went to preschool, I taught the younger preschoolers at Trinity. The next year I taught music at St. Paul’s Franklin to the upper graders and started my own Creative Memories’ business. I ran my business, substitute taught, and taught piano until I started working at Shoreland. I continue to serve God as an organist/pianist at Trinity.
Through the years, God brought many people into my life who shaped me into a person who was interested in other cultures and travel. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to travel to many places all over the US, Russia, Japan, Canada, and Mexico.
