James Groth has served at Shoreland since 1999. He teaches Life of Christ (Religion II), Introduction to Lutheranism, General Music, and directs the Shoreland Concert Band.
Groth, originally from Manitowoc, WI, graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN with a degree in Secondary Education and Music. In 1999 he was assigned to Shoreland Lutheran High School. Before his graduation, he spent one year as an emergency teacher at Michigan Lutheran High School in St. Joseph, MI.
In 2002, Groth married Kathryn Eckert. They have been blessed with six children and currently reside on a hobby farm in the Town of Burlington.
In addition to his teaching duties, Groth directs the Shoreland Pep Band and Worship Ensemble, plays as part of the Shoreland Faculty Brass Ensemble, and serves as the faculty advisor to the Shoreland Board of Directors. He also is the chair of the Shoreland Fine Arts Department and is a member of the Shoreland Academic Council.
